Harold and Simphiwe

Harold read an article in the local newspaper about the BBBSSA programme. He then made some enquires and was very excited about what he had heard - he could not wait to join the programme. He was so excited that he travelled from Hilton to Durban to attend the training session. Harold met Simphiwe for the first time at the launch of the Pietermaritzburg branch. This is what he had to say:

At the launch, I was nervous and I think that Simphiwe was even more so. He seemed to be polite, cleanly dressed and had an air of being his own person as well. When we met again at the SOS village, he was more relaxed and free to speak to me.

This trend was further evident at our meeting last Friday. I am not able to judge how open he will be to mentoring, but I am confident that I will be able to make a difference in his life. With a school break next week, I plan to take him on an outing or two where he will be able to see and do things he hasn't had access to. I am sure that with more time available on these meetings we will be able to get to understand each other more.
